Summer Pizza

Our forecast in Minnesota indicates 95 degrees today with high humidity so I think we can be sure that summer is finally here. I look forward to the warm weather but know that cooking in the house will not be an option, so grilling outside is definitely on the horizon. My recipe file holds many grill selections that I am fond of, but it is always exciting to try something a bit different. If you agree, here’s one idea that might be fun for you to try.

Recently, we did some testing with pizza on the grill. For some of us, this was unfamiliar territory, and although there was some skepticism about success, we were pleasantly surprised with our results. Many tests and dedication by our talented food editor Marcia Brinkley (she made it several times at home) helped us develop a truly delicious pizza with easy to follow directions.  Grilled Sausage and Pepper Pizza has become a favorite among our staff and is surprisingly simple to make—refrigerated pizza crust and clear directions are the secrets to success. We all think the flavor you get from grilling is worth the little bit of effort required to make this tasty pizza. The crust gets nice and crispy, and the topping is really delicious, but the bonus is that each serving only has 9 grams of fat and 250 calories.

So please don’t shy away from pizza on the grill—this one is good for you, easy to make and a winner that you’ll make again and again.
